The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has confirmed forming an alliance with the United Transformation Movement (UTM) ahead of the forthcoming May 19, 2020 fresh Presidential polls as ordered by the constitutional court on February 3, 2020.

This follows an announcement of the resolution of the UTM national executive which, this morning, made public its decision to go into an electoral alliance with MCP in the presidential fresh election.

MCP publicity secretary, Reverend Morris Munthali confirmed of the development, saying everything will be formalised on March 19th, 2020 at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.

Since the nullification of the May 21, 2019 polls, Malawians have been pushing for MCP/UTM alliance with an aim of snatching away the leadership from President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Meanwhile Mutharika has also formed an alliance with the United Democratic Front (UDF) ahead of the fresh polls.
