On Monday, a special court convicted a 49-year-old Maulvi (religious teacher) of sexually abusing one of his students several times over a period of one month in 2018 and sentenced him to six years of rigorous imprisonment.
The incident came to light when the 9-year-old affected minor narrated the ordeal to her classmates. The children penned down a letter to their class teacher about how the Maulvi was sexually assaulting the girl.
After getting to know about the matter, the teacher informed the student’s mother during a meeting held at the school.
According to special public prosecutor Geeta Sharma, the statements of the child, her mother, friend and teacher were recorded in the court during the hearing of the case.
According to the mother’s statement, she learnt about the incident on March 28, 2019, from the child’s class teacher. She and her husband confronted the accused.
Reportedly, the child even identified the accused from among three teachers who were present there, reported the Times of India.
They registered an FIR with the police and got the accused arrested. The accused alleged that he was being framed under false charges as there was a dispute between him and the girl’s parents regarding her studies.
The accused was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and was tried in a special POCSO court. The court dismissed all the bail pleas filed by the accused. Moreover, a penalty of Rs 15,000 was imposed on the accused as compensatory fine for the minor survivor.
