Chakwera visits HRDC leaders at Maula prison (see photos)

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has this morning visited Human Right Defenders Coalition leaders at Maula Prison where they are remanded following their arrest.

Chakwera was franked by some MCP top officials such as Acting leader of MCP in the national Assembly Lobine Lowe and MP Dzoole Mwale.

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) arrested HRDC Vice Chairperson Gift Trapence and Macdonald Sembereka on Sunday on grounds that they planned to seal State House residences across the country.

Timothy Mtambo handed himself to area 3 police unit on Tuesday.

Timothy Mtambo,Gift Trapence and Reverend MacDonald Sembereka are expected to appear in court this afternoon for bail ruling.

Meanwhile Chakwera has condemned the arrest of HRDC leaders and has demanded an immediate release of the three.
