Police in Mzimba have arrested six people for destroying and looting property worth K5.6 million in Mzuzu during a revenge they took on three people whom they suspect to have killed their relative.
Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said the rampage caused by the six on Tuesday, led to the razing down and looting of three shops and three houses including slashing out three maize fields belonging to three people at Mtende Trading Centre in the district.
“The six are have been identified as Foster Njolwa 42, Mike Nkhoma 25, Titus Njolwa 34, James Njolwa 54, Simion Nyirenda 35 and Fishani Mhango 28, all from the area of Traditional Authority Chindi in the district.” Superintendent Peter Kalaya narrated
According to Kalaya, the suspects are accusing the three victims of being responsible for the murder of their relative, Agrim Njolwa who was killed by unknown criminals in November 2019 at his place of work at the trading centre where he was a watchman.
“After Agrim Njolwa, who was a watchman at Z. Mtika Shop at the trading centre was murdered, his relatives consulted a traditional doctor to help them identify his assailants.
It is alleged that the said traditional doctor told them that Mr. Oswald Lungu and his two brothers: Joseph Mseteka and Yohane Mseteka were the ones responsible.” Explained Superintendent Kalaya
“Thus, on the said date, the six suspects mobilised themselves and others to maliciously raze down the shops and houses and slash out the maize fields. Meanwhile, as investigations continue, the police are hunting for the traditional doctor and others who were among those involved in the looting.” disclosed the Northern Region Police PRO
