Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah has said she is ready to leave the electoral body only if she is convinced that it is clean.

Ansah said this at National Elections Consultative Forum (NECOF) underway at Mount Soche in Blantyre.

Ansah’s remarks was a response from Moses Mkandawire of Church and Society who asked why she (Ansah) and the whole commissioners are not stepping down.

“We are ready to leave the Commission but we want to leave it in good condition for the good of next commissioners,” Ansah said.

Aftermath of May 21, 2019 presidential polls different stakeholders have been calling for Ansah and all commissioners to step down by they have been reluctant.

During an exclusive interview with one media house in country Ansah clearly said that she will step down if the Constitutional Court ruled against their findings.

On February 3 when the Constitutional Court nullified presidential elections, Ansah did not do as promised hence pressure continued mounting on her to step down.

After Constitutional Court judgment Ansah made a U-turn saying she will step down if Supreme Court of Appeal rules against them as they have appealed against constitutional Court judgment.
