In a shocking case, a 34-year old man, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in the national capital, allegedly murdered his friend after an altercation broke out between the two in Yusuf Sarai area of south Delhi on Saturday night. The accused has been arrested, police said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Alok Singh, and the now-deceased man, identified as Suman, were natives of Begusarai in Bihar and were in an inebriated condition when the incident happened.
The duo had come from Bihar for Singh’s medical treatment at Safdarjung hospital. He was suffering some complications related to bones sustained during an accident that happened in his hometown in January 2020. Singh had brought his friend Suman along with him as a caretaker. According to the police, the duo was putting up in a rented accommodation in Yusuf Sarai and would often quarrel over small issues.
On Saturday, the duo was consuming alcohol in their room when an argument flared up between them following which the accused stabbed the now-deceased man in his chest with a kitchen knife.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the accused was in a relationship with a woman and the victim used to blackmail him over it. Reportedly, he threatened the accused of revealing the affair to his relatives. So, Singh conspired to murder him.
The accused even attempted to escape by boarding a train early in the next morning but he was intercepted and arrested. The police recovered a blood-stained knife used by the accused to commit the crime from the spot, reported the news agency PTI.
After murdering Suman, Singh gave a call to the police at around midnight alleging that somebody had murdered his friend. A team of police officials arrived at the spot and during interrogation, he admitted to having committed the crime. The victim was rushed to a hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.
