Paramount Chief M’mbelwa of Mzimba has asked Malawi government to effect a travel ban to and from South Africa in the wake of CoronaVirus pandemic.

M’mbelwa said this in a statement posted on his official facebook page seen by Faceofmalawi reporter.

According to Mbelwa, he is concerned that every day there are people trekking to and from SA where confirmed cases are now at 61.

“Mzimba is particularly concerned, further, with recent reports on the spread of the virus in South Africa where the many sons and daughters of Mzimba trek to, in search of greener pastures.

“In view of this, I am calling on sons and daughters who are in majority in South Africa to take extra caution on the same,” wrote M’mbelwa.

He added: “While commending Government for its efforts should the virus find its way to Malawi, I wish to pledge our full cooperation and support at local level. In addition, while thanking Government for the precautionary measures put in place, I humbly plead with Government to emulate measures taken by other countries like: restricting( public) overcrowding and banning or restricting travel to and from the affected countries.”

Meanwhile M’mbelwa has government for instituting a ministerial committee on Corona virus (COVID19).
