Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda has not yet admitted for practice some two South African lawyers that Malawi Electoral Commission has hired to represent it in the Presidential elections appeal case scheduled to commence on April 15, 2020.

MEC through its Chairperson Jane Ansah has hired the South African law firm at a cost in excess of 600 million Kwacha attracting public outcry.

Recently the Malawi Law Society (MLS) under the leadership of Burton Mhango wrote the Chief Justice asking him to allow the foreign lawyers.

But information sourced by this publication indicates that the Justice is yet to admit the said foreign lawyers.

Supreme Court of Appeal Registrar Agnes Patemba confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

Patemba though the lawyers are yet to be admitted, the case will still commence on April 15, 2020.
