In Nkhotakota, an angry mob has assaulted a 33 year-old man to death for allegedly wounding his ex wife.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Chiponda Village.
The deceased has been identified as Mayeso Mphongo of Mnyanja Village in the area of Senior Chief Mwadzama in Nkhotakota.
Facts are that, Mayeso Mphongo divorced her wife, Brenda Zungulire, 25, last year and on the fateful day, in the morning, he equiped himself with a hole handle and a panga knife and went to his ex wife’s home village at Chiponda where he assaulted and hacked her on the head.
This did not go well with the community members who in retaliation started chasing and stoning him. Upon apprehending him they assaulted him until he died.
The scene of crime was visited by police in company with the medical personnel. Postmortem revealed that death was due to head injuries.
The victim is currently admitted at Alinafe Health Centre at Benga in the district.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspects to face the long arm of the law.
