As a move to ensure that environment concerns are tackled, Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) students from Mzuzu have committed themselves to reporting issues concerning environment.

Malawi Institute of Journalism Environmental Club, Mzuzu Campus Patron, Chifundo Zingunde has lamented on low media coverage on environmental issues in the country during environmental training, Mzuzu E-Hub conducted for the club Friday.

“When you look at front page of a newspaper today, you will not find anything to do with environment,” he said.

Zingunde held the training saying it will help the students to be impactful in changing the mindset of people towards the environment.

“These students are the future of media in the country and they will change the mindset of people out there by making environmental issues a people’s priority. If we equip them with environmental issues today, it means we are increasing space for environmental discussions in the country,” he lamented.

Mzuzu E-Hub Sustainability Project Officer, Violet Maluwa asked MIJ Environmental Club to put much focus on waste management and recycling.

“We expect them to focus on how they can recycle and reuse bottles and other wastes we see around in the communities,” she said.

Tina Kumwenda, Mzuzu MIJ Environmental Club member said she gained knowledge that would help resolve environmental issues in the country and sh e will try to share the information to the people that sorround her.
