Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has said it will continue preparing the ordered fresh presidential elections by Constitution Court in the stipulated 150 days.
This has been said by MEC Director of Legal Affairs David Matumuka Banda.
This comes after President Peter Mutharika threw out his assent to the Electoral reforms bills which parliament passed.
But according to Banda, despite that the matter puts the Commission in some sort of dilemma, they are still geared to hold the elections as ordered.
Banda has since insisted it is the same Commission that will oversee the electoral processes.
This coincides with Mutharika’s denial to axe the Commissioners as recommended by the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of parliament.
The committee had through its one on one inquiry with the Commissioners christened them as incompetent over the management of the 2019 nullified presidential election.
