The outgoing Malawi Defence Force (MDF) commander Vincent Nundwe who has been fired by President Peter Mutharika has urged his successor General Peter Andrew Lapken Namathanga to perform his duties in line with the Laws of this country.

On Tuesday, Mutharika in his capacity as Commander-In-Chief of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) made changes in the military that saw other officers being shifted to new offices as Nundwe got replaced by Namathanga from his position as MDF Commander.

Speaking to media, Nundwe said he’s a happy person as he believes he served Malawians according to their demands. He urged his successor, Namathanga to continue serving Malawians as per laws of this country.

“I hope MDF will continue to conduct itself professionally and uphold the constitution. My word to my successor is that they should always act according the law,” Nundwe was quoted saying.

Nundwe added that he is not aware of any wrong doing as this is normal just as how the President has also recently fired the cabinet.

“It’s presidential prerogative…just like Ministers they were appointed but the president dissolved the cabinet. I was appointed and now I am out. I am glad I was accorded this opportunity”

Nundwe’s firing comes after Mutharika ordered the MDF to use force against protesters who plan to March to the State House on March 25.
