National registration Bureau has quashed social media reports that the bureau is registering Malawian citizens below the age of 18 years for voting purposes ahead of fresh presidential polls.

In a press statement made available to Face of Malawi NRB reminds the general public that the National Registration Bureau Act of 2010 mandates the bureau to register every Malawian citizen of 16 years and above for the issuance of National Identity Cards (IDs).

Concerned with social media reports, NRB also reminded the populace that the voting age as stipulated in the Constitution is 18 years old.

In the statement, the bureau added that the role to register voters is mandated to the electoral body Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
NRB, further said that those responsible for the reports aim at tarnishing the image of the bureau.

Therefore, NRB has asked the citizenry to desist from believing and circulating such information for it can cause havoc to the country.
