One person has died while 6 others have sustained seriously injuries after a motor vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Chowe Hills in Mangochi yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Patuma Tawakali(65) of Liwale village in the area of Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi District.
The accident which happened in the morning of March 19 2020 along Bakili Muluzi Highway involved a motor vehicle registration number SA 3472, driven by Kazembe Willo, 46, who was ferrying 45 people to a funeral ceremony in uninsured motor vehicle from Mangochi heading Namwera.
While ascending the Chowe Hills, the vehicle stopped pulling and immediately went off as the driver was trying to change the gears and this prompted the motor vehicle to reverse by the slope and overturned several times throwing passengers on the way then rested in the escarpment.
Following the impact, the deceased sustained fractured thigh and she died while receiving treatment.
