Following constitutional court order on February 3, 2020, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will hold fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020.
MEC Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah announced this during the launch of fresh Presidential electoral calendar in the commercial capital Blantyre.
According to Ansah, voter registration will commence of 4th April to 7th June and will be in 4 phases.
“MEC says people that registered in the 2019 tripartite elections should verify their names in the respective centres,” said Ansah.
Malawi Parliament proposed May 19, 2020 as the day for fresh Presidential polls but President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika refused to assent into law the electoral bills hence the new date.
