The Supreme Court of Appeal in Blantyre has today failed to resume hearing a 14 year old K1.7 billion corruption case that involves former president, Dr. Bakili Muluzi.
A jury of nine Supreme Court judges led by Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda was expected to start hearing the appeal filled by Muluzi.
Lawyer for the appellant, Jai Banda, says the reason is that the state delayed in presenting before the court their arguments for the case.
The 77 year old is being tried along with his former secretary Lyness Whiskey as government claimed K1.7 billion in the former president’s account during his 1994-2004 presidency came from donors.
Muluzi’s K1.7 billion case commenced in 2009 and has been stalling since then.
