Police in Dowa have arrested four refugees from Dzaleka Refugee Camp for allegedly committing an offence of robbery with violence.
Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) has identified them as Joseph Wihanganye, 20, Amisi Nyondo, 17, both from Bujumbura in Burundi, Feston Innocent, 17, and Hasuma Sumaili, 16, both from South Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to M’bumpha, four stole the bicycle belonging to a Malawian national near the refugee camp during the night of Sunday March 24, 2020.”The suspects are alleged to have attacked Madengu Sakala,41, of Kayera Village in Traditional Authority Msakambewa inDowa and stole his bicycle valued at K50, 000 when he was passing Dzaleka Refugees Camp on his way back home.
While the victim was passing by Katubza Location ground, he met the suspects who were armed with machete knives and the suspects attacked the victim and stole his bicycle then ran away.” Explained Sub Inspector M’bumphaHe said the suspects were arrested after police were tipped that the suspects were keeping various stolen items in the house which they were staying together.
“Upon searching the house, police found the stolen bicycle and arrested the suspects and police also managed to recover one mattress and ten chickens stolen from different people within the Camp.” Indicated the Dowa Police Public Relations Officer” He added
