Information reaching Faceofmalawi indicates that three airlines have stopped flying in and out of Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe amid Coronavirus scare.

Airport Commandant for KIA Don Chimtengo confirmed of the development in an interview with Times radio, one of the local media houses in the country.

According to Chimtengo, Kenya and South African Airways stopped on Tuesday while Malawian Airlines stopped on Wednesday.

Chimtengo said the only airline which is still operating in the country is Ethiopian Airlines.

He said they are waiting for directions from government and Ethiopian Airlines on whether to institute a complete lockdown.

Last week President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika declared state of disaster in the country and banned all gatherings over 100 people.

Mutharika also ordered closure of all public and private school across the country to control the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Meanwhile the country is yet to register a COVID-19 case at the moment.
