India – A 26-year-old man allegedly strangled his 19-year-old wife to death after compelling her to consume an alcoholic drink following an altercation between the two. The accused allegedly hung the woman’s body from a ceiling fan in the house in an attempt to pass it as a case of suicide. However, upon examination, it was found to be a murder case and the Pothencode police arrested the accused on Saturday.
The deceased, who was identified as Ragendu, hailed form Vettinad village located near Vembayam and the accused, identified as Adarsh, belongs to Vamanapuram. The police stated that the accused murdered his wife on Monday night at their rented accommodation at Nannattukavu village in Nedumangad block.
The duo fell in love and tied the knot after eloping in January this year. According to a report of the New Indian Express, the woman evinced her desire to visit her parents. She repeatedly asked her husband to return home. This often resulted in quarrels between the newly wedded couple.
On Monday, a heated argument broke out between the couple on the same issue. The accused forcefully made her consume an alcoholic drink by pressing her neck and cheeks. After getting her into an intoxicated state, he strangulated her and hung her body from a ceiling fan in the house to pass it off as a suicide.
In an attempt to mislead everyone, the accused even took her to a hospital for treatment. The police were informed and prima facie they also considered it to be a case of suicide. However, the post mortem report disclosed that the body of the deceased woman had marks of injuries suggesting a struggle with somebody. Following the revelations of the autopsy, the police arrested Adarsh.
