The Ekurhuleni Traffic Officers have wrongfully killed a man and injured three minors who are related to the deceased in an attempt to implement lockdown measures on Sunday.

The incident took place at their Vosloorus home, the deceased who has been identified as Sibusiso Amos was in the backyard with his family when the traffic officers instructed them to go inside the house.

However, the 40-year-old deceased didn’t understand as they were not in the streets and he questioned them and the traffic officers started firing gunshots.

A friend said, “we told the police that we were in the yard, where did they want us to go to.” The metro officers were driving two unmarked VW Golf 7 and two bakkies.

The man died on the scene while three minors who are badly injured are in hospital recovery. The shooting incident was witnessed by the whole family including Amos’ ailing mother, The Economic Freedom Fighters have since condemned the act of EMPD saying that police brutality should be reported even during the lockdown season.

In a statement realised by the EFF, the party said: We note with concern at the conduct of EMPD and lack of understanding of their role in the lockdown as announced by the government, which was not contravened by the family in any manner.

“The family was within the barricade of its own personal space and such force was not necessary and irrational. We call on all citizen to report cases of police brutality.”

The party concluded by sending condolences to the family members.
