The Malawi Police Service in Zomba has arrested a man on grounds that he was recording people’s National Identity Card numbers.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon at Zomba Free Market.

Zomba Police Spokesperson, Patricia Supliano confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).

According to Supliano, the law enforcers are still investigating the matter.

This comes just days after similar issues arose in the Central Region, fueling riggings claims ahead of the forthcoming presidential elections.

The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and its bedfellow United Transformation Movement (UTM) are accusing the ruling Democratic progressive Party (DPP) of being behind the syndicate.

But the ruling DPP has refuted the claims, saying the party is geared to win the forthcoming fresh Presidential polls.
