Police in Mchinji have arrested four people for allegedly assaulting three health officials from Mchinji District Hospital on suspicion that they were blood suckers.

The three health officials were heavily assaulted on Monday, March 23, by an angry mob at Matutu Trading Centre in the district.

During the attack, the three were collecting data on nutrition status for the district.Mchinji Police Station Public Relations Officer Kondwani Kandiado said intensive investigations instituted by Mchinji Police detectives lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The four have been charged with unlawful wounding and theft.Kandiado said through the investigations, police have managed to recover a laptop.“An angry mob had smashed the hospital’s vehicle and went away with a laptop and phones the officers were using for data collection,” he said.

Following the attack, one health official was admitted to Mchinji District Hospital after sustaining serious injuries while the other two were treated as outpatients at the same facility.

Meanwhile Police in the district have condemned allforms of mob justice warning that anyone involved in the malpractice will be arrested and persecuted accordingly.

The four suspects are Lemani Issa, 27, from Thyolonjo Village in the area of Traditional Authority(TA) Mduwa, Getrude Fayson,52, Matolino Mwale, 59 and Leonard Potipher Kaunda, 60 from Matutu Village TA Nyoka in the district.
