The outgoing Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) chairperson Timothy Mtambo has announced the birth of a new Movement Citizen for Transformation (CFT) People Power Movement.

Mtambo made the announcement in Lilongwe during a press briefing when he announced of his resignation as HRDC chairperson.

According to Mtambo, CFT will continue fighting for rights of Malawi citizens stressing that the movement apolitical.

“We do not waste time. We’re not here to create parallel structures but give credit to those already on the ground,” Mtambo said.

He added that the launch of the movement will be announced soon.

According to Mtambo, the movement is centered at liberating and transforming Malawians.

Mtambo continued by thanking people for being with him the entire time he served them under HRDC.

“As an activist my life has centers on defending human rights. Comrades together we’ve fought hard battles. Threats to life, reputation & career. There’ve been assassination attempts on my life. Through support & prayers we have fought through,” Said Mtambo
