Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has described outgoing Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Timothy Mtambo’s endorsement of the MCP- UTM alliance is a morale booster ahead of fresh Presidential polls.
Mtambo endorsed the MCP-UTM alliance during the media briefing in the capital Lilongwe where he also announced his resignation as HRDC Chairperson.
“Fellow Malawians I’ve had time reflect on what has been happening in our country. I’ve done an assessment & concluded that the future of this country will remain the same if we let DPP & UDF rule this country. These parties have failed Malawi.
“I endorse UTM &MCP alliance. We do not waste time. We’re not here to create parallel structures but give credit to those already on the ground,” said Mtambo.
Speaking in an interview with Nation Publication Limited (NPL) MCP’s Publicity Secretary Rev. Maurice Munthali said the endorsement is a clear indication that the alliance’s collective mission resonates well with the aspirations of the majority of Malawians.
“It energises our leaders’ resolve to pursue the agenda for a transformed Malawi which will be fair to all her citizens. With such endorsements, victory is guaranteed in the forthcoming fresh election,” said Munthali.
He added: “We salute Comrade Timothy Mtambo for his unrelenting and vigilant efforts to liberate this country. His patriotism and invaluable passion for Malawi and her people cannot go unnoticed. He is one fearless and resolute freedom fighter in this country”.
Malawi will hold fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020.
