Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) President Peter Dominic Sinosi Driver Kuwani has become the first Presidential candidate to pay the Mk2 million nomination fees to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) ahead of the fresh Presidential polls, Faceofmalawi can reveal.
On February 3, 2020, the constitutional court in Lilongwe nullified the May 21, 2019 Presidential polls and called for fresh polls within a period of 150 days.
Due to the court ruling, MEC through its chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah has started preparing for the polls and the electoral body has set July 2, 2020 as the day for fresh Presidential polls.
Days ago MEC revealed that five Presidential candidates namely; Peter Kuwani, Ras David Chikomeni Chirwa, Independent and others have collected their nomination papers.
As this is not enough, this publication has established that Kuwani has gone further by paying the Mk2 million nomination fees to MEC.
According to bank deposit receipt seen by FOM’s reporter, Kuwani deposited the cash though MEC’s FDH bank account on April 1, 2020.
