Police in Mangochi have arrested three men and recovered a motor vehicle suspected to have been stolen.
Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, says the three who were arrested Tuesday are suspected to have stolen the car in January this year after impersonating as police officers, dressed in camouflage attire.
According to Daudi, the suspects, 21-year-old Shafi Hassan, Rashid James, 23, and Julius Saidi, 28, are suspected to have stolen a Mazda Demio Registration Number MJ 2339 worthy K1.7 million but Namwera police officers apprehended them during patrols and recovered the stolen motor vehicle.
“The suspects lied to the owner of the car that the said car was wanted because it was involved in a hit and run road accident in Monkey-Bay,” she said.
She said the suspects demanded keys of the vehicle and drove away with the victim and his son who were later dumped around Namwera Trading Center in the district.
She said all the suspects come from Katuli Village in the area of Traditional Authority Katuli in the district.
