A Zimbabwean security guard manning OK Supermarket in Masvingo is under fire after he connived with his wife to steal groceries worth $1 300 using an old receipt from the same shop he works at.
The guard, Tanyaradzwa Rupazari (24), an employee of Safeguard Security, was apprehended by police together with his 21-year-old wife Chipo Masunda on Sunday evening.
Masunda reportedly produced an old receipt when she approached her husband who was checking receipts at the supermarket’s exit door.
According to reports from Masvingo Mirror, Masunda allegedly picked up groceries from the supermarket shelves, stuffed them into plastic bags and bypassed the shop tellers without paying.
She then went to her husband who was checking the receipts at the exit. Rupazari checked his wife’s groceries and cleared them.
However before the couple could successfully pull off their heist, a security personnel in civilian attire approached them and interrogated them.
Upon questioning, Masunda failed to identify the teller who had processed her transaction at the till to the satisfaction of the interrogating officer.
A cornered Masunda then implicated her husband as the mastermind behind the plan to steal the groceries, leading to their arrest.
Police spokesperson for Masvingo Province, Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident.
