The Lilongwe City Council (LCC) demanded a lockdown at Area 9 compound following three covid-19 cases registered in the compound on Thursday.

Malawi President Professor Peter Mutharika confirmed the first three cases of Covid-19 saying the patients came from same household at area 9.

In a communiqué dated 4th April, the council said that Lilongwe District Health Office and others concerned stakeholders met on Friday where it was agreed that the compound should be on lockdown to ensure that the virus is not spread in case someone also contracted the virus.

“Since all three confirmed cases are in one compound, only that compound will for now be on lockdownand the DHO will ensure that all protocols are strictly being followed,” reads the communiqué in part

Meanwhile, Malawi has now registered four new cases of corona virus, including one in Blantyre.

According to the Minister of Heath Jappie Mhango, it was a patient who recently traveled to the United Kingdom (UK) and was in self-isolation for 14 days in Blantyre before testing positive.

Corona virus has claimed many lives since its outbreak in China at Wuhan.
