India – A 24-year-old man was hacked to death for stopping a minor girl’s marriage in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu on Monday night.

The youth was allegedly murdered by a man and his relatives after they doubted that the victim tipped off the police about the ‘illegal’ marriage.

The cops had stopped the marriage after they were alerted that the girl is a minor and did not attain 18 years of age.

According to a report in Times of India, the victim has been identified as N Ramamoorthy, who recently got married and lived on Chinthamani Road.

According to police, the accused bridegroom Vijayakumar, his other relatives including Ranjith, Karuppuraja, Manikandan killed the victim on Monday.

The victim was intercepted by the accused after his father dropped him to his home on his bike. After seeing the accused, Ramamoorthy ran for his life but could escape as he was attacked by sharp weapons.

The victim’s wife rushed to the spot after hearing his screams. Ramamoorthy died on the spot after he suffered multiple sharp injuries. Later, police reached the spot and shifted the body to Rajaji Government Hospital for autopsy.

A case was registered against the accused after a complaint by the victim’s father Nallusamy. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

According to police, the prim accused Vijayakumar suspected that Ramamoorthy was behind foiling his marriage by informing police about it.

Police say the victim was a neighbour of the minor girl’s family and the two families were not on talking terms.
