President Peter Mutharika has accused leader of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Lazarus Chakwera of inciting violence in the central region.
Mutharika made the allegations on Tuesday night during his national address.
Mutharika alleged that Chakwera is ordering attacks of people suspected to be collecting National Identity Cards (IDs) in some parts of the central region.
He further accused of the opposition party leaders of causing unrest through spreading of blood sucking rumors in order to disturb the voter registration exercise.
According to Mutharika, it is very unfortunate that instead of fighting the current enemy which is coronavirus other leaders , some politicians, using certain Malawians were installing fear by fueling acts of mob justice on suspected blood suckers.
He noted that this issue resurfaces during election period and said the aim was to discourage people from registering for the forthcoming polls.
