In a very distressing development, a 36-year-old woman was fatally stabbed after having gone to collect money which she was owed.
The incident happened in Sebokeng township, Gauteng, South Africa. The suspected assailant, whom the hapless woman had gone to collect the money from is said to have run riot and stabbed her several times with a sharp object.
According to reports, on the fateful day, the woman left her home with her 14-year-old daughter to collect the money which she was owed. The amount of the money which she was owed has not yet disclosed.
Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed the murder and revealed that the suspect was arrested at the crime scene and is now in police custody.
‘A 40-year-old, who allegedly stabbed a 36-year-old woman, is expected to appear in the Sebokeng Magistrates Court tomorrow (today).
The deceased was allegedly at the suspect’s house in Sebokeng zone 13 to collect money she had lent him. The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object in the upper body,’ he said.
According to a source close to the woman’s in-laws, she received a call from a man believed to be her neighbour in Boitumelo in the Vaal. She then left her in-laws’ home in Sebokeng zone 13 in the company of her daughter, but when she got there the man sent the child to the shops.
‘The child said when she returned from the shop the man chased her away and said he’d shoot her. No one knows how much money the man owed her and the family doesn’t know what the money was for.’
After committing the crime the suspect reportedly tried to take his own life. Local residents who rushed to the scene after being alerted of the fracas and foiled the suicide attempt. Since the entrance to the house was barricaded, the locals had to break into the house through the window.
