Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has announced that Gift Trapence has now taken over leadership of the coalition following the resignation of Timothy Mtambo.
This was disclosed today during a media briefing held in the capital Lilongwe attended by Faceofmalawi reporter.
The grouping also disclosed that the position of Vice Chairperson will be filled soon.
Speaking to the press, Trapence assured Malawians that the grouping will remain apolitical in pushing for people’s rights.
“We will not be conducting demonstrations until conoranavirus end because as human rights defenders people’s health becomes our first priority,” he said.
Mtambo resigned from the grouping weeks ago and joined frontline politics.
He also endorsed the alliance of the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and its bedfellow United Transformation Movement (UTM) ahead of the fresh Presidential polls.
Mtambo also promised to campaign for the alliance.
