President professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of the ruling Democratic progressive Party (DPP) has collected nomination papers ahead of the forthcoming Presidential polls scheduled for July 2, 2020, Faceofmalawi can reveal.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Director of Media and Communications, Sangwani Mwafulirwa confirmed of the development on Monday.
According to Mwafulirwa, eight Presidential candidates have so far collected nomination papers ahead of the fresh polls.
Mwafulirwa also hinted that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and its bedfellow United Transformation Movement (UTM) are yet to collect nomination papers.
Presentation of the papers is expected to be done on April 23 and 24, meaning candidates willing to participate in the poll should have the papers ready by these days.
The Constitutional Court nullified the May 21, 2019 Presidential polls and called for fresh polls within a period of 150 days.
