According to local folklore, the Murahwa Hills which are home to the Pool of Death, are reported to be sacred by local inhabitants. There are numerous reports of deaths which have occured there which locals have described as mysterious.
The publication has learned that at least 10 members of the Sungano Apostolic Sect decided to spend the national lockdown engaged in worthwhile activities. The 10 headed to Murahwa Hills for a marathon prayer and fasting session.
The 10 are reported to have lit a fire when they got to the cave. What happened next is still unclear at the moment. However, some reports say that the fire quickly turned into a massive conflagration which produced a thick smoke, which made it difficult for the apostolic sect members to escape the case.
Three members of the sect are reported to have failed to make it out of the cave and are suspected to have died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The deaths have since been confirmed by the police through ZRP spokesperson for Manicaland Province, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa.
However, traditional leaders in the area have called for the hills to be exorcised arguing that too many mysterious deaths have occured there.
Samuel Kandiero, from the Zimbabwe Traditional Healers Association Manicaland Chapter, told the online publication
“The Murahwa Hills is sacred as there have been numerous deaths there. We think it is high time we exorcised the hills,”
