The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has said it will be suspending all electoral activities today.
The decision follows the suspension of the voter registration exercise in Blantyre after some people destroyed electoral kits in some areas.
However, the Commission has in a statement today indicated that all the activities will be halted on 16th April, a day before the first phase of the voter registration was supposed to end.
According to MEC Chairperson Jane Ansah, the decision has been arrived at so that processes are retrieved ahead of the ordered lockdown from 18th April.
However, Ansah says these decisions will need to be guided by the court as the Commission was still ordered to hold the elections on 2nd July this year.
