The Supreme Court of Appeal has dismissed Malawi Electoral Commission application to vary the Constitutional Court order in order to allow the commission extend the period for holding fresh elections.

Following the development, the election will still have to be conducted within the 150 days as directed by the Constitutional Court on February 3.

Delivering the ruling, Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda told the court that the issues which MEC brought are already in the affidavits which MEC filed to the court in an appeal case.

The court dismissed MEC outright without hearing the submission.
