Skeffa Chimoto who is a Lilongwe – based musician has released single speaking volumes of Covid -19 pandemic and the preventive measures adding to the several songs that have been released so far.
Several artists including Piksy and Phyzix have released singles on the pandemic talking about its dangers and how it is spread as well as highlighting its symptoms.
Skeffa said that he has produced the song with support from Cowater Sogema.
“The pandemic has affected everyone and Malawi has not been left out. We have recorded cases here as well as deaths and so I thought of doing something with my musical talent and the best was to work on a song,” he said.
He said everyone was affected in one way or the other and that as a messenger, he decided to reach out to the people with the message.
“I just want to call upon people to listen to the song and get the message. Let us unite by following the precautionary measures,” Skeffa popularly known as ‘The Jamming Machine’ because of his energetic performances, said.
Having been involved in a number of awareness programmes on different issues and with a background with Health Education Band, Skeffa, said it was important for him to be part of the Covid -19 issue.
In the song in which he has featured his sister Edith, Skeffa has not run away from his musical style and he sings about the dangers of the pandemic.
He also talks about handshakes in the song which he says are now a thing of the past and that now it was all about washing hands frequently with soap to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
“With Cowater Sogema we talk about In path project which also has a component of hand washing and so since one of the precautionary measure in avoiding the spread of Covid-19 is washing hands with soap frequently, Cowater Sogema decided to sponsor the song,” Skeffa said.
On what he was doing as an artist in the absence of live performances, Skeffa, said he was doing nothing except working on some jingles.
“We just pray to God that things should come to normal soon otherwise it is hard,” he said.
