Police in Lilongwe have arrested an Egyptian national Addalana Muhamed and Malawian girl friend Musifia Molisini both aged 20 for being found in possession of Indian hemp.

Police also said they have opened another case for the male suspect on illegal stay.

Inspector Kingsley Dandaula Central Region Police Public Relations Officer, said the suspects were arrested on March 16, 2020 at Kamundi Lodge in area 47 when CID officers at Central Region Police Headquarters received a tip-off that the suspects were fighting at the lodge.

“After receiving the information the CID officers rushed to the Lodge where they found the suspects fighting and after observing the way the suspects were behaving the officer decided to conduct the search in the room which the Egyptian was staying. Indian hemp and unidentified medical drugs were found.” Said Dandaula

“When the officers demanded to see the travelling documents of the Egyptian, he failed to produce despites that he has been in the country for 6 month.

All the suspects are in police custody and will be charged with the offence found in possession of indian hemp and illegal stay.” He added

Mosifia Molisini hails from Bonongwe village in the area of Traditional authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu.

Dandaula has since indicated that the Indian hemp will be sent for analysis to Chitedze Research Station and the unidentified medical drugs to Pharmacy and Medicine Regulatory Authority for analysis.

In a related development police in Lilongwe has arrested John Mchenga aged 30 of Mononga village in the area of Traditional authority Chigalu in Blantyre and other 7suspects for being found in possession of Indian Hemp and assorted medical drugs respectively.

According to Dandaula, the 8 were arrested on 16 April, 2020 during a sweeping exercise by Drug Detectives Officers from National Police Headquarters and Urban Drug Officers following high levels of drug abuses within the city.

“After conducting the exercise they managed to arrest the 8 suspect ,of which 6 suspects were found in possession of Indian hemp and the other 2 suspects were found with assorted medical drugs respectively. He confirmed

Dandaula said the suspects are in custody pending the analysis of the indian hemp and the assorted medical drugs at Chitedze Research Station and Pharmacy and Medicine Regulatory Authority Laboratory.
