A 21 old year man has died after falling into a pitlatrine in Chitipa district.
The deceased has been identified as Alisoni Sichula of Mkombanyama village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwaulambia in the district, says Gladwell Simwaka, Chitipa Police Station PRO.
Simwaka said the man fell into the pit as he was returning from a beer drinking joint within Chitipa Trading Centre in the night of April 16, 2020.
“On his way back home he fell into a deep pitlatrine full of water which was being dug and drowned. This happened near round about within Chitipa Trading Centre. Said Simwaka
According to Simwaka, the body was discovered on the morning of April 17, 2020 and that police and medical personnel were called to the scene to retrieved the body.
“Postmortem conducted at Chitipa District Hospital showed that death was due to suffocation.
Police in the district are advising community members to cover their pits to avoid such accidents.” He said
