Three-year-old boy has died following mudslides that swept his family’s home in Pampanik village, Oldonyo Ngiro , Narok South Sub-county.

The Sub-county Commissioner for Narok South, Felix Kisalu confirmed the tragedy.

A report by the Daily Nation revealed that the area received heavy rains the whole of Friday and Saturday morning that led to the mudslides in the hilly terrain that buried the boy while asleep in their grass-thatched house while the mother and several others escape alive with internal injuries.

The mother, Sady Rotich together with three other children were rushed to Narok Referral Hospital for further medical examination and the victim’s body was retrieved after several hours and taken to the Narok County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Several other people are also feared dead and property worth thousands destroyed along the Elgeyo-Marakwet and West Pokot border due to the flash floods and mudslides.

Despite heavy rains warnings from government agencies, residents in the area have been hesitant to move to higher ground.

Meanwhile, Elgeyo-Marakwet Police Commander John Mwinzi has requested government to assist with helicopters that can be used to rescue people in the area as bridges have been swept away together with the mudslides.
