An official of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Bauchi state has tested positive for COVID-19 as the deadly virus continues to spread across states in Nigeria.

A statement released by Ibrahim Sani, on behalf of the health commissioner, Aliyu Maigoro, revealed the unnamed staff recently travelled to Kano and returned infected with the virus, Premium Times reports.

Following the development, the Bauchi state government said it has sealed the office complex which is shared by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and WHO.

Legit.ng gathers that the office complex which was decontaminated has now been sealed and will remain so for 14 days.

The office complex was sealed in order to prevent and de-escalate the spread of the virus in the state, the government explained.

The statement which was released on Sunday, April 19, also indicated that health officials had carried out contact-tracing of persons who had interacted physically with the latest confirmed case.
