In a shocking incident, five men who were lodged in a quarantine centre in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district allegedly hunted a rare bird after they reportedly got fed up of having vegetarian food.

The five men, who are labourers, are staying at Nokha village of Jaisalmer district. The accused killed francolin bird which is protected under Schedule 3 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

According to a reports, the men also misbehaved with the teachers tried to stop them from cooking the meat. Later, police arrested all the five accused who are native of Madhya Pradesh.

The police have booked the accused for assaulting the teacher to prevent him from discharging his duty, and the Wildlife Protection Act.

In his complaint to police, the teacher Sushil Kumar alleged that the labourers attacked him with stick and stones when he opposed them for cooking the meat.

“Many labourers are lodged at Shaktinagar School under Nokha police station for quarantine. Five of them killed a bird. The in-charge of the centre was also attacked. We have lodged a complaint and are probing the matter,” said Kiran Kang, Superintendent of Police (SP). 

Quoting sources, the report suggests that the inmates were bored with eating vegetarian food and wanted to have some non-veg.

According to activist Radheysham Pemani, the migrant labourers from different states lodged in schools and shelter homes  are hunting wildlife. Several nearby villagers have also complained about their activities.
