Chairperson of the Prisons’ Inspectorate, judge Kennan Manda, says his inspectorate recommends release of half of the prisoners in the country’s prisons.
Judge Manda said this in Blantyre as authorities reviewed files for prisoners targeted for pardon in efforts to decongest prisons as part of the war against the spread of the corona virus COVID19.
President Peter Mutharika directed the decongest of prisons in Malawi to ensure that the spread of corona virus is minimized.
Currently, Malawi has registered 23 cases of corona virus with 2 deaths and 3 recoveries.
