Unconfirmed reports reaching Faceofmalawi indicates that government through Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale has filed an application at the court to have the Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) obtained injunction of the lockdown implementation, vacated.

On Tuesday last week, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika imposed a 21-day lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country.

But order attracted mixed reactions with many questioning the rationale behind it. As this was not enough, HRDC through its lawyer Khumbo Soko applied an injunction before the High Court Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda.

Nyirenda granted an injunction and ordered for an interpate hearing within a period of 7 days.

According to information at hand, the interpartie hearing is set for Friday this week and Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda will preside over the case.

Malawi has so far recorded 23 cases of coronavirus with three deaths, according to Ministry of Health.
