The quasi-religious body Public Affairs Committee (PAC) is seeking to meet State President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to discuss a number of issues that are of public interest in the wake of COVID 19 pandemic.
Bishop Gilfold Matonga Publicity Secretary for the organization made these remarks in an interview Tuesday with journalists in Blantyre.
He said the country is in a difficult situation because of the COVID 19 pandemic, the court case and the injunction which was taken against the lockdown.
“We seek an audience with the president to raise our concerns about what will happen after the 150 days following the constitutional court ruling on the presidential case and what will happen if the elections are not held, the COVID 19 and the way it is being handled,” he said.
Matonga said the COVID 19 issue needs a collective effort by all stakeholders saying that their mediation team has been given power to engage with all concerned parties on the issues that are of public interest.
PAC Publicity Secretary said that they are encouraging talks amongst all concerned parties as all issues cannot be handled by the courts.
“We are also urging all Malawians to remain calm and be peaceful and we appeal to all stakeholders to accept the court ruling. PAC appeals to all stakeholders to accept whatever determination the Supreme Court will make regarding the presidential case since it is the highest court in Malawi,” he said.
He said we need to respect the independency of the Judiciary saying that they will issue a statement on the issues raised.
