The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has shifted dates of receiving nomination papers from Presidential Candidates ahead of the fresh polls to May 6 and 7, 2020, Faceofmalawi can reveal.

Initially, MEC set April 23 and 24 as the day of receiving the nomination papers but the dates have been shifted to May.

MEC Chief Elections Officer Sam Alfandika confirmed of the development in a statement made available to this publication, saying only 10 delegates will be allowed entry into Mount Soche Hotel as candidates will be presenting the papers due to covid-19 prevention measures.

“All candidates and political parties are advised to stick to the time they will be allocated and inform their supporters not to accompany them or hang around the venue in adherence to Covid-19 pandemic prevention measures,” reads in part the statement.

MEC has since advised all Presidential candidates and political parties to present their completed nomination papers to MEC secretariat for pre-inspection before the presentation day.

MEC will hold fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020.
