Stakeholders in the environmental sector have questioned government’s failure to enforce the ban laid on use and sale of thin plastics in the country.
The remarks come after commemorations of World Earth Day themed Climate Action.
And as one way of complimenting efforts towards environmental conservation, the Supreme Court of Appeal in 2019 upheld government’s ban on thin plastics.
However, it has been observed that retailers in most markets are still using the thin and single use plastics which are deemed harmful to the environment.
With this Chairperson of the Wildlife and Environmental Society Tionge Gawo said that they are surprised with government’s lack of commitment eradicating such plastics on the market.
Gawo, however pointed out that it is the responsibility of everyone to protect the environment
