The United Democratic Front (UDF) has trashed rumours hovering on the social media that the party’s Treasurer General Hon. Carton Sichinga has dumped the party and joined the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ahead of the fresh Presidential polls.
On Wednesday the social media was awash with reports that some top official in UDF are not happy with the party’s alliance with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Reports went further saying that UDF Treasury General Hon. Carton Sichinga and Victoria Mponela, UDF Vice President for the North have dumped the party.
But UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga trashed the rumours, saying the rumours are untrue.
“These two veterans: Hon. Victoria Mponela VP ( North) and Hon. Carton Sichinga Treasurer General are not going any where. They have been in UDF and will remain so. In fact mama Mponela says ” over my dead body”.
“Please ignore any information to the contrary,” wrote Ndanga on his official facebook page.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that UDP President Atupele Muluzi will pair President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in the fresh Presidential polls scheduled for July 2, 2020.
Meanwhile Presidential candidates will present nomination papers to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) from May 6 2020.
