Malawi Police Service have failed to overpower Prison Officers at Chichiri prison in Blantyre in an attempt to force the officer to call of their strike.

Starting from yesterday prison officers across the country have been staging sit-in  protesting over risk allowance in which their fellow men and women in uniform have received in the wake of Coronavirus.

Officers from B Company in Kanjedza clashed with police at Chichiri Prison in Blantyre after the Police attempted to clear the road leading to the prison that had been blocked by the warders.

Police Officers arrived at the facility in two land cruisers and started shooting in the air forcing the warders to retaliate.

The police have since left the area after failing to accomplish their mission.

The warders have blocked the road again.
