Blantyre Lilongwe based artist Noel Chikoleka known by his stage name Phyzix of the ‘Cholapitsa’ has attributed his growth in music to his acceptance to criticism.
Phyzix said he was passionate about creating and performing music.
“Whether I am successful or fail, I still enjoy the process and it gives me a sense of purpose and that is what keeps me going and even against the hate, ridicule and criticism. I learn from all that and so I just focus on getting better,” he said.
Phyzix has so far managed to release 13 collections which include albums and Extended Playlist (EPs).
While most urban artists have struggled to release albums and EP’s preferring singles, Phyzix has braved the tide to work on albums and EPs.
The artist said Thursday that he was happy to have hit 13 in an industry which was challenging.
“It’s 13 collections now and each one is special in its own way. Each album has contributed to what we have today. The best-selling of them all is Gamba Season EP and the most critically acclaimed is The Lone Ranger, my debut album,” he said.
Phyzix started off with The Overdue Mixtape in 2006 and then Man Man Volume One Mixtape in 2007 before dropping From The Dust Mixtape in 2008.
The others are The Lone Ranger LP (2009), Secret Service (2010), Follow The Leader ( 2011), Chilipo Mixtape ( 2012), Gamba wa Suit LP ( 2015), Captain Long John (2016), Captain Bae EP (2017), The Diaries a joint album with Barry One released in 2018, Solid in 2019 and the latest Gamba Season EP, which has seen a number of people buying it including fellow artists Gwamba and Fredokiss.
“At the moment I am making use of digital platforms to stay in touch in the absence of live shows. I have also taken part in bringing awareness to the people about Covid -19 titled ‘Tigonjetsa Coronavirus’. We all have a part to play,” he said.
